Special biome weapons can be really useful. You find them in special chests in mini-biomes - try deserts for tar biomes (there are tar hammers), mushroom villages in forest planets (I think there are shroom weapons, not sure), bone biomes on arid planets (not sure these planets appear around gentle stars, but the bone swords and pistols are very helpful early game).As you wander the planets you'll find chests just lying around which have a chance to contain weapons (the larger chests seem to have a higher chance). My current best weapon is an air burst grenade launcher found in a regular old chest, it hits monsters for 1400+ on a direct hit. Exploring is the best strategy, in my opinion.

Starbound Weapons List
I get the 'racial' armor set made and may get a good drop of some kind of legendary melee weapon, and then just end up running around mining and not finding any way to get better armor or any kind of projectile weapons. I've gone to other planets, dug deep and wide, and just haven't found anything better.I keep reading that it's good to have better armor and a good sniper rifle before using the beacon. Am I missing something?
